Parenting can be overwhelming, filled with second-guessing, and sometimes downright messy. We wonder if we are doing a good enough job or why we can’t seem to keep it together.
Are you being critical of yourself? Do you have a lingering worry in the back of your mind about “messing up” your kids?
Are you trying to meet the needs of everyone and falling short feels like failure?
Let’s work together to quiet the sources of judgement and guilt that you face, so that you can focus on what really matters.
Benefits of working with a Therapist
Working with a Family Therapist can help you address specific concerns that arise in your home and provide you with the compassion and support needed during this trying time.
Together, we work toward:
better relationships between parent and child
tools to support your child’s development
improved communication between family members
increased knowledge of mental health
improved mental wellness in the family
stress coping skills
Harmony Counselling provides support for all members of the family.
How Does Counselling Help with Parenting?
Parent Therapy stems from the needs of the child and centres around solutions that help children heal, grow and thrive. Support is provided to the parents, to the family as a whole, and works to find unity and understanding within the home.
When parenting advice falls short, where do you turn?
Social media has become an added source of stress and anxiety for parents and can make you feel inadequate. We compare ourselves to others and come up short more often than not. Even when we know that most of what we see isn’t reality, it still leaves us with questions like “they seem to have it all together, why can’t I do that?” or “what is wrong with me that I can’t do it all?” Rarely are we reassured that the challenges you are experiencing are normal and valid.
Common challenges may include:
feelings of guilt and/or inadequacy
feeling connected to your partner or child
difficulty managing anger
feeling overwhelmed with the number of roles you are balancing
communication with your partner
finding time for yourself
You may also be concerned for your child if they seem to be struggling with:
coping with emotions
anxiety
processing a traumatic experience
conflict in friendships
self-harm/threats of self-harm
problematic behaviour at home or at school
developmental milestones
difficulty with day-to-day transitions
Harmony Counselling and Psychotherapy provides parent therapy geared toward helping you understand and connect better with your children during the stage of development they are in.
Hi, I’m Kerri!
I am a psychotherapist, mom of two humans, and foster-mom to great danes. I know all about the chaos and overwhelm that comes with being a parent. Parenthood is a great time for us to learn about our breaking points and our greatest strengths. I help parents like you uncover these strengths and rediscover what you are capable of.
You are the best suited person for the job of meeting your child’s needs. You are designed for it by nature. The problem is the context that we are parenting in. We face judgement and impossible standards. We are overwhelmed, burnt-out and filled with self-doubt.
Therapy with me consists of bringing these feelings to the surface and debunking the myths of motherhood that make us feel inadequate.

Therapy for Perinatal Anxiety and Depression
Society seems to put focus on your baby and often forgets about mom. You may have thoughts and feelings that don’t fit the picture of a glowing pregnancy or an elated new mom.
Counselling for Parents with Infants
Your baby deserves the best care. In their development years time can move quickly and concerns can arise about their progress. It helps to talk to someone that understands infant care.
Therapy for Teenagers
The struggles during the period of adolescence are some of the most challenging. When your teenager is struggling you may need direction on the best way to support them.
Family Therapy
Communication in the family can be impacted as roles and relationships change and evolve. The family dynamic shifts in alignment with each developmental stage our children experience. How do you adapt?
If you are experiencing one or more of these struggles, help is within reach.
Help for Moms with Perinatal Depression
Mom first…
Perinatal Depression stirs up feelings of sadness, isolation, and inadequacy. It can start during pregnancy (prenatal) or after giving birth (postpartum) and can last as long as one year following birth.
You may have a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder if you are:
feeling sad or depressed
irritable or angry with those around you
having difficulty bonding with your baby
anxious or panicky
having problems with eating or sleeping
having upsetting thoughts that you can’t get out of your mind
feel as if you are “out of control” or “going crazy”
feel like you never should have become a parent
worried that you might hurt your baby or yourself
You are not alone.
15-20% of women feel the way you do and relief is within reach.
At Harmony Counselling we are equipped to help you understand perinatal mental health and work through it. We prioritize your mental health, seeing it as the most important factor for the wellbeing of both mom and baby.
Taking care of you is the first step.
